Everything needed to redact a document properly, and nothing that sends it away

Obscelis covers the whole path from the original to a shareable copy: import, detection, human review, export and verification. Each step runs on your computer.

Import without touching the original

Drop a document or pick it from the file dialog. Obscelis checks its format, size, encryption and integrity, then works on a private copy: the original is only ever read.

  • PDF documents with a text layer or scanned pages, up to 500 MB
  • Text files: plain text, Markdown, CSV, TSV, JSON, XML, HTML and vCard, up to 10 MB
  • Password-protected and damaged files are explained, never silently skipped
  • Projects group the documents of one client or case, stored locally

Detection that shows its evidence

Rules, check digits, OCR and context each add evidence. The confidence band that results is a review aid, not a promise: a pattern alone never earns high confidence for an identifier that has a check key.

  • IBAN checked with MOD-97, payment cards with Luhn, NIR with its control key, including Corsican 2A and 2B
  • Scanned pages read with Tesseract OCR in French and English, on your device
  • Labels nearby (IBAN, born, address, SIRET) raise or lower confidence
  • Your own rules: client numbers, case references, word lists and allowlists

Review at the speed of your keyboard

The document stays in the middle, the detections in an inspector beside it. Page and list follow each other, and each decision moves you to the next open item.

  • A to accept, R to reject, C to change category, Z to draw a zone, arrows to move
  • Apply a decision to every occurrence of the same value in one go
  • Filters by state (To review, Decided, All), category and confidence
  • Review, Redacted and Compare views to see the result before exporting

In the redacted view, accepted detections and zones become solid blocks. Undecided ones keep a dashed outline: nothing is masked until you decide.

Export a copy you can verify

Export is available once every detection is decided. It writes a new file next to, never over, the original, and publishes it only after every check has passed.

  • PDF pages flattened, metadata and hidden content removed
  • Text files keep their format; each masked character becomes █
  • Independent reread: text, OCR, annotations, forms, attachments, metadata
  • An audit report that names the checks and contains no masked value
